Psion launches Neo with Ultra High Frequency RFID capabilities
Device maker works with CAEN RFID to address new markets for its growing portfolio of RFID products
London, 17 February 2012 – Psion (LSE: PON), a global provider of mobile computing solutions today announced a new version of its Neo light and rugged handheld computer that integrates Ultra High Frequency (UHF) with its Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.
Psion has a wide range of RFID-enabled mobile data collection devices that allow users to quickly and effective identify tags. Its technology is also easily integrated with other data capture technologies and can be deployed in a number of different applications including inventory management and retail.
The UHF model is easily mounted to the back of the Neo allowing for faster reading of ID tags and enabling use in dense tag environments. Psion Neo UHF is also one of the smallest UHF industrial readers which makes it perfectly adapted to applications like jewel inventory or item control at points of sale.
“This product is ideal for customers with heavy demands of inventory management, asset tracking, apparel and container tracking. The UHF mount gives it additional flexibility to address the retail market,” said Pierre Bonnefoy, Global Director RFID Solutions at Psion. “This new UHF reader is providing a unique combination of light ergonomics and high tag reading capability”
The new RFID capabilities of Psion Neo were developed in collaboration with CAEN RFID, a pioneer in these types of readers. The Psion module can combine linear or circular polarized antennas and it is based on the Quark CAEN RFID reader so that it offers multiregional capabilities. In addition, it supports the EPC C1 G2 and ISO 18000-6C protocols as well as is CE, FCC and IC certified.
“We worked with Psion to develop the smallest UHF reader on the market so that customers continue to capture precise information from even the smallest items,” said Giovanni Grieco, Business Development Manager of CAEN RFID. “Our collaboration is once again bringing an innovative and affordable product into the global RFID market”.
The Psion NEO UHF is available from today through Psion’s partners network.
About CAEN RFID
CAEN RFID is a leading Italian company in the design and production of RFID UHF readers and tags. CAEN RFID was the first company in Europe to produce and distribute UHF readers. Its active involvement in the EPC Global, AIM Europe and ETSI work groups have allowed it to provide RFID readers and tags which are in the vanguard of existing technology. Amongst these the easy2read© readers/writers have been designed to permit the use of one single identification technology for reading either at close range or at a range of several meters; the semi-passive easy2log© tag can be used for the monitoring and recording of temperatures of perishable products in transit (such as food or chemical/pharmaceutical products in cold storage).
