What is the benefit of the Omnii Advantage (OA)?
With the purchase of any new Psion Omnii family product after January 1st 2012, the customer has the option to upgrade an Omnii module to any upgraded version of that module in the future, free of charge, allowing them to adapt the product as their business needs change, and reducing their total cost of ownership.
Why do I have to purchase a service contract to benefit from the OA program? The majority of our Customer already purchase a Psion service contract, as our customer satisfaction levels and delivery-to-commitment performance are both very high. This also helps insure properly function hardware if a customer wants to take advantage of OA.
Who can take advantage of the OA program? This program is valid as long as the original end-user customer owns the Omnii product with the intent of continuing use after the product is upgraded. It is not valid for distributors or other channel partners or secondary owners.
Where will the upgrades be performed? Psion will perform all Omnii module upgrades at our Psion manufacturing and repair facilities in either Hebron KY (USA) or Aix-en-Provence (France).
Do you support onsite upgrades to minimize the disruption to my business? Yes, we typically do support onsite upgrades, at a nominal cost. Please contact your local Psion representative and we will work proactively to find a local solution that best fits your needs. It may include the support of our local VAR or independent Psion distributor.
Why do I have to wait a year before an upgrade? The intent of the program is to allow users to inexpensively adapt the product as their business changes. Without a requirement of one year of product ownership, customer could immediately upgrade the product before any field use effectively paying a reduced purchase price than other customers. This is not in the spirit of the offer.
Who pays for the freight costs associated with the upgrade? The customer is responsible for the shipment to Psion for upgrade. Psion will pay for the return freight back to the customer.
Can I upgrade the product and then sell it in the secondary market at an improved street price? Many Omnii products will find new and happy owners in the secondary market. It is a testament to the longevity and build quality Omnii. However upgrading a product only to increase its street price is NOT in the spirit of the contract. If such behavior is identified we will take action to recover the associated upgrade costs.
How many upgrades can I receive from the OA program? Module upgrades are limited to one upgrade over the life of the Omnii product.
How long is “life”? Is that forever? We define the “life” as the service life of the product, which is typically five (5) years after formal End of Life announcement for the product. We also support our products on a commercially reasonable efforts basis after the fifth year. We want our customer to leverage our products as long as possible, but we also realize technology will change and our products will move to future generations accordingly.
This sounds expensive, how can Psion afford to offer this? We believe loyal and satisfied customers are the best way to build a long term sustainable business. Furthermore, as used Psion products, accessories, and modules have historically high value in the marketplace (given their proven durability) we can offset some of the program costs and afford to make this industry leading OA offer.
What if I break my Omnii and it is out of warranty, can I use the OA program to fix it? No, this Program does not replace warranty claims; it is limited to properly functioning modules and products only.
Will I receive new hardware with my upgrade? It may be replaced with either new or refurbished hardware, depending on the age and condition of the Omnii, and the availability of modular replacement parts in the supply chain.
Are batteries included? No, batteries are considered a wear item and will degrade with use, not unlike the tires on an automobile. We recommend you replace the battery every 1-2 years of use for optimal battery life.
If I no longer have a service contract, and I upgrade a module under the OA program, what is the warranty on the replacement module? Service labor and parts are guaranteed for 3 months (90 days).
Terms & Conditions:
- With the purchase of any new Psion Omnii family product, the original end-user customer receives the option to upgrade an Omnii module to any version of that module free of charge after the first year of product ownership
- This Omnii Advantage Program (“Program”) offer, subject to the conditions herein, is valid as long as the original end-user customer owns the Omnii product
- Module upgrades are limited to one upgrade over the life of the Omnii product; life being five (5) years after formal End of Life announcement
- Customer must purchase a three (3) year Day 1 Psion Services maintenance contract (i-Serv, Services Plus, Managed Services or Modular Services) with the Omnii product.
- Psion will perform all Omnii module upgrades at its maintenance and repair facilities
- This Program does not replace warranty claims nor Psion Services for failed or damaged products. Upgrades are limited to properly functioning modules and products.
- Psion may replace original Omnii modules with refurbished upgrade modules, at their sole discretion.
- Omnii batteries are not modules and are not eligible for Program
- This Program offer may be changed or cancelled by Psion at its sole discretion and is subject to Omnii module availability
- All taxes, duties and other charges, including transportation to Psion, are the responsibility of the customer. Psion’s sole obligation is to provide a module exchange, installation and return shipment
