Speech Solution Enhances Pallet Packing Efficiency
“The former packing method with self-adhesive labels produced too many errors, so we had no difficulty in taking the decision we took in November 2005 - we would implement a Speech system as soon as possible. We started to use the system at our central stores in Vejle back in spring 2006, and by the end of August the system had also come into operation in Rødovre.” – Lars Knudson, IT Manager, Fakta.
Fakta is a Danish supermarket chain owned by Coop Denmark. Two central storeslocated in in Vejle and Rødovre, supply Fakta’s 340 stores. Fakta aims to provide customers high quality healthy products at competitive prices. Therefore, efficient stock management and distribution of goods is an important competitive edge.
The Challenge:
- Fakta had been using a self-adhesive label packing system at is warehouse facilities
- This packing method had difficulties managing the 70,000 daily picking transactions of over 800 product numbers, and resulted in many errors and slowed operations
The Solution:
- Fakta implemented a speech solution consisting of TekSpeech, Psion Teklogix’ speech recognition solution and Vocollect® Talkman speech terminals which wirelessly integrate with Fakta’s central ERP system
- Pickers now receive orders on their speech terminals and are easily directed to the warehouse location to retrieve orders
- The speech terminals can be programmed to understand a variety of languages to make communication easier for Fakta’s diverse workforce
